Italy’s Muslim community has invited Pope Francis to visit Rome’s Great Mosque (January 27). Although Pope Francis has visited several mosques, this would be the first time that a pope visits the Great Mosque in Rome. The invitation came on the heels of the pope’s visit last weekend (January 17) to Rome’s Great Synagogue where he condemned violence in the name of religion and stressed interfaith relationships. The pontiff’s visit came half a century after Nostra Aetate, a landmark Vatican document that opened the way for Catholic-Jewish dialogue.
