Anglicans Suspend US Episcopal Church over Same-Sex Marriage

Anglican-600In a significant move, top leaders of the worldwide Anglican Communion this week sanctioned the Episcopal Church for its recent actions in support of same-sex marriage. The Communion is a body of 38 regional jurisdictions including the US-based Episcopal Church and more conservative churches in the global south. The Anglican leaders said the Episcopal Church’s actions had impaired the communion. Under the sanctions, for the next three years the Episcopal Church will not be able to represent the communion at ecumenical and interfaith bodies or take part in decision-making on issues of doctrine.
