Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby discussed European anti-Semitism during his visit to the US this week. The spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington. He called for more dialogue to address religiously motivated violence. Welby recently discovered that his late father was Jewish. He said Christian leaders in particular have a responsibility to speak out more against anti-Semitism in Europe:
Archbishop Justin Welby: I don’t think there’s a rise of anti-Semitism. I think there’s a reemergence of a latent anti-Semitism that is deeply embedded in European culture and always has been.
