Cupich Installed as Chicago’s Catholic Archbishop

cupich-NEWS-smBlase Cupich was formally installed as the Catholic archbishop of Chicago. In a ceremony before his installation, he knocked three times on the cathedral door, symbolizing his request to be admitted. He succeeds Cardinal Francis George, who is battling cancer. Cupich is widely seen as a moderate in the style of Pope Francis, in contrast to the more conservative George. In Cupich’s homily, he pledged to do more to reach out to the victims of clergy sex abuse:

Archbishop Blaise Cupich: “Working together to protect children, to bring healing to victim survivors, and to rebuild the trust that has been shattered in our communities by our mishandling is our sacred duty.”
