Two-Hour Long Execution Provokes Debate over Death Penalty and Lethal Injection

arizona-execution-HEAD-smMore outrage over lethal injections this week after an Arizona inmate took nearly two hours to die: Witnesses said convicted murderer Joseph Wood gasped for breath hundreds of times before being pronounced dead. His lawyers had unsuccessfully sought to delay the execution on the grounds that Arizona would not disclose where the lethal injection drugs had come from. Lethal injection has come under increased scrutiny in recent months, after botched executions in Oklahoma and Ohio.
