Pope Francis traveled to Assisi, Italy this week (Sept 20) in honor of the 30th World Day of Prayer for Peace. He met with religious leaders from around the world, including Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and representatives from Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism. Francis also invited 12 refugees from various countries to eat with him. Pope John Paul II established the World Day of Prayer for Peace in 1986, when all involved in conflicts were asked to put down their arms for a day.
