Bernie Sanders Visits Vatican for Conference on Economy and Social Justice

06-600Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders surprised many political observers by interrupting his campaign in New York’s primary election next Tuesday (April 19) to attend a conference at the Vatican. Sanders was among dozens of speakers at a meeting organized by the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. The conference commemorated the 25th anniversary of a landmark encyclical on the economy and social justice written by Pope John Paul II. Sanders gave a short speech about the urgency of a moral economy.
