Boy Scouts Delay Decision on Lifting Ban on Gays

boyscoutsAfter much campaigning by outside groups on both sides, the Boy Scouts postponed until May a decision on lifting its ban on gay scouts and leaders. Several conservative religious organizations were particularly vocal in their opposition to lifting the ban. There was also some religious support for changing the policy. About 70 percent of Boy Scout troops are sponsored by religious groups, the largest of which are Mormons, followed by United Methodists and Catholics.
