The group’s leaders sharply criticized efforts in Congress to cut funding for government nutrition programs, formerly food stamps. They highlighted the House of Representatives’ proposal that would make cuts of almost $40 billion over the next decade, saying that would increase hunger and create new burdens for faith-based groups that help the poor.
