Coptic, Armenian and some Eastern Orthodox churches celebrated Christmas this past week (January 7). On January 6 and the following Sunday (January 11), many other Christians celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, which marks the manifestation or revelation of Jesus. In Western churches, the holiday tends to focus on the visit of the magi to the baby Jesus. But in Eastern Orthodox churches, Epiphany or Theophany, as it is also called, focuses on Jesus’ baptism. For the churches that celebrated Christmas this past week, Epiphany falls on January 19.
