Hindus in Western India have kicked off a festival that happens once every twelve years. Over the next several weeks, millions of pilgrims are expected to bathe in the Godavari River during the Kumbh Mela, or pitcher festival. Hindu tradition says bathing in the sacred river will cleanse their sins.

And Muslims around the world are observing Eid al-Fitr, the three-day festival marking the end of Ramadan. During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims who were able fasted from sunrise to sunset.
