It is one of the most important times of the year for Christians and Jews. Western Christians are observing Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday (March 29) and culminating with Easter (April 5). With special services and rituals, they remember the Gospel stories of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
Jews will be observing the eight-day celebration of Passover beginning Friday evening (April 3). This week, as is traditional, one of Jerusalem’s chief rabbis started Passover preparations by cleaning out notes and prayers wedged inside crevices in the Western Wall.
