Cardinal Burke to Be Dismissed as Head of Vatican’s High Court

cardinal-burke-NEWS-smUS Cardinal Raymond Burke confirmed that he will be removed from his position as chief justice of the Vatican’s Supreme Court. Burke is known for his outspoken conservative views on a number of issues, including same-sex marriage. Last week he criticized a Vatican meeting of bishops that had considered adopting more welcoming language toward gays and divorced Catholics. The meeting ended without a clear consensus, but the issue will continue to be debated ahead of a follow-up meeting next year.
