Pope Francis was among numerous religious leaders and human rights activists condemning a militant attack against a Catholic retirement home in Yemen last week. A priest was kidnapped and at least 16 people were killed, including four nuns from Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity order who were handcuffed and shot in their heads. Francis called the nuns “today’s martyrs.” He said the attack demonstrated the “globalization of indifference” about the political and economic chaos inside predominantly Muslim Yemen.
