Churches Agree to Renovate Holy Site in Jerusalem

03-Church-of-Holy-Sepulcher-600For many pilgrims, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is one of the holiest sites in Christianity. Worshippers believe it was built on the site of the tomb from which Jesus was resurrected. Over the centuries, different branches of Christianity have kept jealous watch over the site, sometimes fighting over who controlled what. Gradually, the shrine inside the church marking the tomb deteriorated. Finally, it was so near collapse some of the church rivals came to agreement. A $3.4 million renovation is set to begin next month.
