Faith leaders are expressing alarm after the shooting of a protestor in Charlotte. Twenty-five members of the Charlotte Clergy Coalition for Justice say they believe the protestor was shot by police. City officials described the shooting as a “civilian on civilian” confrontation. Unrest in Charlotte erupted after police fatally shot Keith L. Scott, a black man who police say was armed. North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has declared a state of emergency. The violence in Charlotte comes after two other deadly police shootings. One involved a black teenager with a BB gun in Columbus, Ohio, the other a black man in Tulsa, Oklahoma who had his hands above his head before an officer opened fire.
