There was widespread international condemnation of last Sunday’s bombing at a chapel next to Cairo’s main Coptic Orthodox cathedral. At least 25 Coptic Christians were killed, mainly women and children, and dozens more were injured. The Coptic pope, Tawadros II, presided over funeral services. Copts make up about 10 percent of the population in Egypt. The US Commission on International Religious Freedom called on the Egyptian government to do a better job of protecting its Christian minority.
