Religious groups are among those calling for a new national conversation on violence, law enforcement, and race in the wake of this week’s devastating shootings. Many expressed shock and horror about the targeted killing of police officers in Dallas. That happened during a peaceful protest against the high-profile fatal police shootings of two black men earlier in the week: Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge and Philando Castile in Minnesota. Faith leaders had also strongly condemned those deaths. Several religious groups designated this a Sabbath weekend to pray for—and work toward—an end to racism and violence.
