Some religious groups have launched a campaign in support of Kelly Gissendaner, Georgia’s only female death-row inmate. Her scheduled execution this week was indefinitely postponed because of concerns about the lethal injection drug. The 46-year-old prisoner was sentenced to death for her role in the 1997 murder of her husband. Many faith leaders have urged that her death sentence be overturned. Gissendaner became a devout Christian and earned a theology degree while behind bars. She has become a spiritual mentor to other prisoners.
