FDA Debates Genetic Modification of Human Embryos

FDA_HEAD_smallThe Food and Drug Administration this week debated whether to green light testing of controversial new technology that would use the DNA of three parents to create a human embryo. Scientists say that could help prevent inherited diseases. However, there are ethical concerns that it could lead to the creation of so-called “designer babies.” The technology has been successfully tested in monkeys. Now the question is whether it would be safe and ethical to use it in humans as well.
