Western Christians around the world have been observing Holy Week. Beginning with Palm Sunday (March 29) and continuing to Easter (April 4), millions of Christians have been participating in special services and rituals remembering the Gospel stories of Jesus’ arrest, death, and resurrection. In Rome, Pope Francis conducted a traditional Holy Thursday (April 2) foot washing service in a prison. As a symbol of Jesus’ humility, Francis washed the feet of 12 male and female inmates and detainees.
