In the Central African Republic, Muslim and Christian leaders appealed for an end to spiraling sectarian violence. More than 500 people were killed in the past week alone, many of them children. The Central African Republic has been torn by fighting between Christians and Muslims since a largely Muslim coalition of rebels seized control of the government in March. The violence has displaced more than 400,000 civilians—10 percent of the country’s population.
