Hunger Report: Fragile States Stand in the Way of Ending Hunger and Extreme Poverty

03-600A new report from the Christian anti-hunger group Bread for the World says conflicts, climate change, and corrupt governments are major factors in sustaining extreme poverty around the world. The report says by the year 2030, two-thirds of the world’s poor will be living in areas threatened by violence, political instability, and the effects of climate change. It says world hunger cannot be reduced unless those factors are also addressed. Leaders urged faith-based activists to press the incoming Administration on hunger issues:

Rev. David Beckmann, Bread for the World: “In this moment, people like us need to use all that we know about how to create political will, we need to use it with creativity and passion. We know that it is possible to achieve continued progress against hunger, poverty, and disease. What it takes is continued effort, and increased effort.”
