International Summit Concludes on Editing Human Genes

Hundreds of scientists, ethicists and policymakers from around the world gathered in Washington this week to discuss guidelines for manipulating human genes through a new technique known as “gene editing.” The technique has the potential to help cure devastating illnesses. But some ethicists are concerned that people could also use it for cosmetic or physical enhancement. Betty Rollin reports about the therapeutic potential of gene editing and the possible moral consequences.
