A well-known Christian student organization has been denied official recognition on the nearly two dozen college campuses in the California State University system.
The evangelical InterVarsity Christian Fellowship requires its leaders to affirm specific Christian beliefs, a policy that effectively bars from leadership those who disagree. The Cal State system says the requirement violates its nondiscrimination policy, and that official student groups must open leadership to all. InterVarsity says changing the requirement would compromise its religious beliefs.
