Syrian Kurds Join Fight to Defend Kobani from ISIS; UN, Vatican Urge Response ”Beyond Military Action”

ISIS_-NEWS-smHeavy fighting continued in Syria as Kurdish forces sought to defend the border town of Kobani from ISIS. The US led a series of airstrikes against ISIS and attempted to drop supplies for the Kurdish fighters. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon warned that a purely military response in Syria without a political solution could lead to more extremism. The Vatican issued a similar caution, urging governments to go beyond military action and increase humanitarian aid to refugees.
