ISIS Claims Responsibility for Istanbul Attack; Pope Decries Terrorism and Says “Do Good” in the New Year

09-600ISIS claimed responsibility for last week’s terrorist attack (January 1) in Istanbul that killed 39 people and injured dozens more. Mourners gathered to pay respects to the dead while many religious and political leaders continued to condemn the attack. Pope Francis urged world leaders to work together to fight the “plague of terrorism.” Francis said 2017 would be what people make of it—good to the extent that each, with the help of God, “seeks to do good day after day.”
