ISIS Attacks: “Religious Cleansing and Attempted Genocide”

ISIS-crimes-NEWS-smAs the US and international groups increased humanitarian aid to Iraq, UN officials raised grave concerns that crimes against humanity were being committed by Islamic State militants, or ISIS. This week, the UN human rights chief accused ISIS of ethnic and religious cleansing, citing their brutal attacks against minorities, including Christians and Yazidis. Those views were shared by Syriac Catholic Patriarch Younan, who returned from a trip to northern Iraq with a delegation of Catholic and Orthodox Church leaders. Younan said the actions of ISIS were “pure and simple religious cleansing and attempted genocide.”
