Jordan’s prime minister has called off a plan to install surveillance cameras at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount. The plan, brokered by US Secretary of State John Kerry, was meant to ease tensions after clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces. Muslims also revere the holy site, calling it the Noble Sanctuary. Under a decades-old arrangement, Jews are allowed to visit the Temple Mount but not to pray there. Meanwhile, the executive board of UNESCO voted for a resolution that condemns what it calls Israeli aggression at the Temple Mount. Some Jewish leaders said the resolution champions the Palestinian view of the conflict and ignores the site’s significance to Jews.
