In Europe, Hungarian police clashed with migrants and refugees. The police used tear gas and water cannons to keep the migrants from entering Hungary from Serbia. Hungary has erected a metal fence along its border with Serbia, claiming the migrants pose a threat to the country. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said he was alarmed by Hungary’s treatment of the migrants. Here at home, President Obama said the U.S. would take in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the coming fiscal year. However, a wide range of faith groups said that plan is woefully insufficient. Several humanitarian groups are urging the U.S. to increase its intake to 200,000, including 100,000 Syrians.
