International outrage also continues to grow in the case of a pregnant woman in Sudan who faces execution for refusing to renounce her Christian faith. Last week a Sudanese court convicted Meriam Ibrahim of apostasy and ruled that her marriage to a Christian man was invalid under Islamic law. Her husband says he fears for the health of his wife and their unborn son. This week, human rights groups and religious leaders called for her release. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew said the death sentence was a disgrace to humanity.
