Jacques Hamel, the French priest killed by Islamic extremists this past summer, could become a saint. The announcement was made at the Mass celebrating the reopening of the church where Hamel was murdered. The French Archdiocese of Rouen has officially begun an inquiry into the beatification of Hamel, one of several steps in the canonization process. Typically, there is a five-year waiting period required after the death of a person before the process can begin. Pope Francis, however, said that under the circumstances he would grant an exemption.
