This week faith groups around the world reacted with grief and anger to the latest two videotaped killings by ISIS. One victim was a Christian journalist from Japan who was beheaded, and the other a Muslim Jordanian pilot who was burned to death. In Jordan, prayers and remembrances were held for the pilot, while many Muslim groups denounced his murder as barbaric, even “satanic.” The Council on American Islamic Relations emphatically said that ISIS had a false interpretation of Islam. In Washington, a group of American Muslim leaders met with President Obama behind closed doors at the White House. They discussed strategies to combat ISIS and issues facing the U.S. Muslim community, including anti-Muslim violence and concerns about civil rights.
