The Southern Baptist Convention held its annual meeting in Columbus, Ohio this week (June 16-17), and the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on same-sex marriage was a major focus. Church leaders reaffirmed their opposition to gay marriage and distributed a guide about potential legal problems for them involving issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. The meeting came amid news of record declines among Southern Baptists, the largest Protestant denomination in the US. LifeWay Christian Resources said Southern Baptist churches lost more than 200,000 members last year, the biggest drop in more than 130 years.
