NYC Police and US Army Allow Sikh Turbans, Beards

06-600After years of advocacy, Sikh soldiers in the US army will now be allowed to wear signs of their faith, including beards, unshorn hair, and turbans. The army this week issued new regulations making the religious accommodation permanent, except in rare tactical situations. Meanwhile, New York City’s police department announced a new policy allowing Muslims and Sikhs to wear beards and head coverings with their uniforms.
