Faith-based groups are among those welcoming the administration’s new plan to dramatically cut carbon emissions from US power plants. President Obama unveiled the final version of the measure at the White House. He cited Pope Francis’s recent encyclical on the environment, saying that “taking a stand against climate change is a moral obligation.” A spokesman for the US Catholic bishops called the plan “an important step forward to protect the health of all people,” especially the poor and vulnerable. The group Interfaith Power and Light said its member congregations would work to ensure the plan is implemented.
