President Obama reached out to American Muslims with an impassioned speech this week (February 3) at a Baltimore mosque. In his first visit to a mosque in the United States, Obama reassured Muslims they have a place in America. The president also implicitly criticized Republican presidential candidates by condemning anti-Muslim rhetoric.

President Obama: “If you’re ever wondering whether you fit in here, let me say it as clearly as I can, as President of the United States: You fit in here—right here. You’re right where you belong. You’re part of America, too.”

While various religious leaders praised the president’s speech, some Muslims took to social media to criticize a president they say should have done more sooner.
