01-Calendar-600On Monday (March 21), Baha’is and Zoroastrians celebrate Naw-Ruz, their New Year. It follows 19 days of fasting. many throw colored water and powder on each other to mark the triumph of good over evil.

On Wednesday (March 23), Hindus begin celebrating the popular spring holiday Holi. As part of the festivities, many throw colored water and powder on each other to mark the triumph of good over evil.

On sundown Wednesday (March 23), Jews begin celebrating Purim and the biblical story of Queen Esther, who risked her life to protect the Jewish people. Many gather in temples and synagogues—in costume—to retell the story of courage and deliverance. It’s often called “the whole megillah.”

Also this week, Western Christians are observing Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday (March 20)  and culminating with Easter (March 27).

Around the world, there are many special services and rituals to help them remember the Gospel stories of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
