Pope Calls for Ban on Executions, Abolition of Death Penalty

02-Francis-600Pope Francis called on Catholic leaders to stop executions during this year that he has proclaimed a Holy Year of Mercy. The pope also said the death penalty should be permanently abolished. He said the commandment “you shall not kill” refers to all, whether innocent or guilty. Francis’s Holy Year of Mercy encourages Catholics to show mercy in every aspect of their lives.
