Ahead of his upcoming trip to Mexico, Pope Francis denounced corruption, violence and drug-trafficking there. In a video message, he said Mexico was living in its own type of war, and he would use his visit to pray for the gift of peace. The pope is scheduled to land in Mexico next Friday (February 12). He will visit some of the country’s poorest and most violent regions. Francis is also scheduled to stop in Cuba on his way to Mexico for a historic meeting with the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church. The meeting is an attempt to heal the 1,000-year-old schism that divided Christianity between East and West.
