The White House announced that President Obama will visit Pope Francis for the first time at the Vatican on March 27. A number of items will be on their agenda, including poverty and growing economic inequality, which each of them has spoken about in recent months. This week, the pope sent a representative to raise those issues before 2,500 business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In his message, Francis implored them to work for a more just distribution of wealth and to “ensure that humanity is served by wealth and not ruled by it.” And in Rome, Francis marked the World Day of Migrants and Refugees by visiting a parish known for its outreach to immigrants. The day is set aside by the Catholic Church to remember those displaced around the world due to conflict or persecution.
