Pope Francis Visits Georgia and Azerbaijan, Appealing for Peace in the Caucasus

04-600The pope is visiting the countries of Georgia and Azerbaijan this week to focus on interreligious dialogue and reconciliation. Francis met with the Orthodox Patriarch of Georgia, as well as the local Chaldean Catholic community. And in Azerbaijan, he is spending time with a key Muslim leader. The pope’s visit follows his June trip to Armenia, where he appealed for peace and religious freedom in the Caucasus region.
