Pope Francis released his annual World Day of Peace message, asking that world leaders tackle issues such as unemployment and access to health care. He also called for the abolition of the death penalty, and he encouraged all Catholics to overcome what he described as a “globalization of indifference.” World Day of Peace is celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church every year on January 1. In a homily delivered at a basilica in Rome, Pope Francis urged humanity to not let sadness prevail, despite the many forms of violence afflicting the world.
