AP Poll: Few US Catholics Familiar with Pope’s Encyclical on Environment

At the Vatican, Pope Francis spoke out during his general audience against the harmful effects of unemployment on society, especially families. Issues involving the family, poverty, and the environment are expected to be a major focus of the pope’s trip to the US next month. A new poll shows that only a minority of American Catholics have heard about Francis’s recent encyclical on the environment. Four in 10 Catholics were aware of the letter, and of those only a quarter had heard about it at Mass.
