Religious Leaders Condemn Executive Orders on Border, Immigration

06-600Many religious leaders swiftly condemned a series of actions taken by President Trump this week that targeted immigrants. On Wednesday (January 25), Trump signed a pair of executive actions that included the construction of a Mexican border wall and greater immigration enforcement efforts. The president plans to hire 10,000 more immigration officers and 5,000 additional border patrol agents. He said he would limit federal funds for so-called sanctuary cities—cities that do not report undocumented immigrants to federal authorities. Trump also plans to ban the admission of people from a number of Muslim-majority nations, including Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
