A new report by the International Organization for Migration said a record number of migrants worldwide—5,400— died last year in attempts to cross national borders. Children accounted for a third of the dead. The report also concluded that, increasingly, the dead cannot be identified, often because they cannot be found or because their bodies have badly decomposed, leaving many families wondering whether their loved ones are still alive.
Monday, June 20, marks World Refugee Day. The Obama administration plans to resettle 85,000 refugees this year, even though 30 or more state governors have said they don’t want any more, and despite the fears of many people that among the newcomers might be terrorists.
