The US Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of a Muslim teenager in Tulsa who was denied employment at an Abercrombie & Fitch clothing store because of her hijab. She was told that her headscarf violated a company policy that states how store workers should look. Many religious groups came out in support of the woman, saying she had been discriminated against because of her faith:
ERIC BAXTER (Becket Fund for Religious Liberty): “She cannot remove her headscarf for a job interview without remaining true to herself, and Abercrombie refused to hire her because she was true to her religious beliefs.”
Abercrombie & Fitch says it wasn’t discrimination because the teenager never mentioned that she wore the scarf for religious reasons.
