St. Louis Catholic Parishes Urged to Distance Themselves from Girl Scouts

04-Girl-Scouts-600The Archdiocese of St. Louis has urged that parishes cut ties with the Girl Scouts. In a letter to parishes, Archbishop Robert Carlson argued that the organization’s beliefs are incompatible with Catholic values. Carlson said the Girl Scouts and the church differ on issues such as reproductive rights and abortion. Carlson asked that churches seek alternative options to the Girl Scouts. The letter also voiced concerns about the Boy Scouts of America. Some Christian denominations have severed their relationship with that group because of gay rights issues.
