International pressure is mounting on the U.S. government to intervene in the case of Meriam Ibrahim, a Sudanese Christian woman who was sentenced to death for refusing to renounce her faith.
Ibrahim was also sentenced to 100 lashes for her marriage to a Christian man, a U.S. citizen. The Sudanese court considers their marriage to be invalid under Islamic law. Last week Ibrahim gave birth in prison to a daughter. The couple also has a toddler son, who is in prison with his mother.
