Syrian War’s Toll on Children Especially Devastating

syria-HEAD-sm This weekend marks the third anniversary of the conflict in Syria. Several humanitarian groups issued new reports about the devastating toll the war has taken, especially on children. An estimated 136,000 people have been killed, including more than 10,000 children, and children make up more than half of all Syrian refugees. But there was some good news out of Syria this week: Thirteen Greek Orthodox nuns abducted in December by al-Qaida-linked rebels were freed as part of a rare prisoner exchange with the Syrian government. They said they had been treated well. Two kidnapped Orthodox bishops and an Italian Catholic priest, Father Paolo dall’Oglio, are among those still missing.
